Description Of Environmental Practices:
The environment is a critical issue and we are committed and responsible
in keeping a healthy environment and future.
Reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions -- Year over year we have decreased our
emissions of PM and NOX. Reduced Particulate Matter by 37% and Nitrous
Oxide by 45%.
New enviro-friendly engines -- Average age of power fleet is 2.9 years.
Installation of new technology engines reduces the amount of emissions. New
engines burn fuel more cleanly. We only use ultra low sulphur diesel fuel
in our engines. We are committed to replacing older engines with newer ones
and look forward to even cleaner options available in 2010.
Strict speed limit policies -- One of the most aggressive speed limit
policies in Canada. East of Manitoba border and Ontario and Quebec is 90
km/h. West of Manitoba border <100 km/h. This significantly reduces our
fuel consumption and green house gas emissions. Studies prove that lower
speed limits also increase highway safety. Our safety record is exemplary
in the industry. Enables us to run equipment with less horse power
requirements, decreasing fuel consumption.
Saving power burns less fuel -- Entire fleet is equipped with a power saving
feature that automatically shuts down the engine after 10 minutes of
continuous idling. APU's (Auxiliary Power Units) are installed in Longer
combination vehicles that will heat or cool the bunk unit with the main
engine turned off. Units are also equipped with Shore Power¯. APU also
heats the engine fluid to aid cold weather starts and consumes up to 80%
less fuel than the main engine.
Equipment is outfitted with: Long Life Drive Lines, Long Stroke Brake
Chambers, Auto Greasers, Extended Life Anti Freeze and Premium Batteries.
Improved aerodynamics -- All of our tractors are equipped with Air Shields
on the roof to decrease the aerodynamic drag and increase fuel efficiency.
Air shields on the roof are also a safety factor and stabilizing device.
Measuring performance -- Our onboard Victor technology measures driver
performance including speed, RPM revving of the engine, hard brakes and
idling are measured to help improve safety and fuel efficiency.
