Gonzo Is Not Nearly As Offensive As This Publication writes this customer review about Northern Miner, Business Information Group (aka Conrad Black, Hollinger Group).
RE: MARKET NEWS. (2011, March 28). The Northern Miner,p. 6... Anyone with even the slightest humanitarian sense MUST read reports like this sad dehumanizing example of money-talk! The Northern Miner is certainly not alone in its pandering to those who place profit above humanity, but this report is more than enough to know that corporate greed and humanity are diametrically opposed!
The language used in this, Business Information Group (BIG) publication (formerly owned by now-convicted criminal Conrad Black of Hollinger infamy) can be best characterized as "p*rn for profiteers". If you ever wondered about how much caring about people is behind the mining industry, this single report speaks volumes.
"COURTESY of the disaster in Japan and fears of a nuclear meltdown..." - what kind of money-grubbing morons can actually attribute thanks to one of the worst, if not the worst, energy industry related disasters on the planet?? And on the starvation front, "Rising food prices continue to fuel HEALTHY valuation..." - the food industry is a major victim of the energy industry now scooping corn/grains from world food supplies to produce green-washed fuel to power cars for those who can afford them. There is NOTHING healthy about rising food costs. This reminds me of the traders at Enron who joked about poor grannies who lost their electric power during the California Energy scam. This kind of money warrior talk is disgusting and for publication cartels like the owners of The Northern Miner to specialize is propagating a message of money over humanity is a significant source of our global economic and humanitarian problems today.
And, Massey Energy Co BENEFITING from fears about the future of nuclear power, just makes the whole package even more pathetic. Massey Energy (with now-retired CEO Don Blankenship) had a long-standing history of regulatory offenses (at least 60,0000 at the time of the UBB Mine Disaster 2010), and to hear their improving circumstances, clearly as an attempt to bolster investment interest, shades this publication in the colour it deserves - BLACK AS COAL! Another good reason to rely less on global media networks and more on independent news services like Straight Goods and Democracy Now!
A Black Wedding Of Energy Royalty writes this customer review about Northern Miner, Business Information Group (aka Conrad Black, Hollinger Group).
RE: Saywell, T.. (2011, February 7). Alpha, Massey to hook up. The Northern Miner,p. 1,3... I'm curious if the date of Jan 29 to announce of the proposed merger of Alpha Natural Resources and Massey Energy was chosen to commemorate the 29 miners killed at Massey Energy in the worst avoidable man-made mining disaster in 4 decades!
The Northern Miner article reads like a scene out of Austin Powers, with Doctor Evil planning to conquer the world. This is just what the (future) victims of the mining and energy industries need - fewer, larger, megalithic non-sovereign corporations, with the financial means to lobby, buy preferential legislation, and intimidate any (remaining) government regulatory bodies. Massey Energy got off with a mere $20 million settlement for $1.8 BILLION ($1,800 million) in fines for 60,000 violations with government regulatory bodies. And here we are, celebrating the growth in power and even greater immunity from prosecution of an already egregious player.
Don Blankenship, the "retired" CEO of Massey Energy, with his $30 million a year paycheck, made sure that collective bargaining was kept out of reach of his miners. By violating federal health and safety standards, this ship was run with profit on the horizon and dead miners in the bilge.
I suppose when a publication like Northern Miner, reports to Business Information Group, it's a bit much to ask for humanity to find its way into its pages. The more I review publications like this BIG one, the more it becomes clear that a person can live for profit, or for humanity, BUT NOT BOTH!
Coal IS STILL a Dirty Business writes this customer review about Northern Miner, Business Information Group (aka Conrad Black, Hollinger Group).
RE: Coal gets respect. (2011, February 7). The Northern Miner,p. 4... Only someone with a head full of coal dust would characterize a merger of coal giants, post historic disaster as a sign of "respect". Massey Energy's CEO Don Blankenship was in the spotlight, and there was no hiding from the clear record of health and safety violations his company engaged in.
Miners at Massey Energy were underpaid by industry standards, and attempts at highlighting safety malfunctions were met with intimidation and threats of firing. The world runs on coal. The stuff, which when burned, produces H2SO4, sulfuric acid, which becomes acid rain, and ends up rolling around at toxic mercury on our beaches. This can NEVER get respect. The fact that the "energy industry" has applied its full weight of influence on government, media, and workers to propagate our dependency on fossil fuel, when clean alternatives have existed for decades is more than enough to permanently condemn ANY enterprise continuing to pander to this insanity - this applies to BIG publications like The Northern Miner!
