This place is a MESS! We bought our home from Mcdiarmid Lumber in
Yorkton in November 2009. We were told to let it settle over the
spring and contact them in May or June 2010. I write this now in May
2011 and have had nothing but problems getting out house fixed. They
sent one guy out to fix the cracks, and they did a terrible job, and
even missed some. to do this, they removed all the door frames in the
house, so now not only do I have a house with multiple things to fix,
I've got a house with no door frames. I have spoken to Mark multiple
times and still have NOTHING being done. If your thinking of getting
a house, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT go with McDiarmid homes, you'll live
to regret it ever day afterwards!
Lindsey D in Estevan, Sask. writes this customer review about Mcdiarmid Lumber Ltd.
We signed on for a home
through McDiarmid Yorkton in Jan 08 to be completed in June 08. The
entire time we were told right on schedule, right on schedule. Two
weeks before the completion date told two weeks behind. THE HOUSE
ENDED UP BEING COMPLETED OVER 1 YEAR OVERDUE! Our house was
delivered 1/2 complete at end of September 2008. No toilets, showers
missing, tile work not done, doors missing, three different colors of
eaves/fascia/downspouts. The trim was missing on the outside of
house, the list goes on. On top of that noone was coming to fix the
house. Two guys were sent down a 1 1/2 months later and they
complained they couldn't do anything and pretty much left every time
w/o doing anything. We were basically left homeless by these guys, my
wife had just given birth and we were sleeping on the floor with young
girls. Literally, I know what it feels like to feel homeless. These
guys did not care/were not concerned. We got into our house 6 months
after it had been delivered because we had to, still half complete.
All and I mean all of the sinks leaked, the ensuite shower leaked,
none and I mean none of the appliances fit in the cabinet openings/the
doors on the cabinets did not line up/ and later learned they had a
framer installing them/not a cabinet installer. The sidng was all
screwed up and needed replaced, the shingles/some put on upside down.
The back door in the winter we had literally a two foot "drift" of
snow coming in the door. The front door froze up as well. The "jack
of all trades" they sent out told us that was normal and all we needed
to do was, get this, pull out a hair dryer and melt the ice off of the
door every morning! He showed us this as he did it! With all of
the interest and paying for things two and three times over we are out
about 60-70thousand dollars which they are refusing to compensate us
for. Whatever you do, do not deal with this company! They are all
incompetent, unreliable, and bold faced *. If you have read this
and you continue to deal with McDiarmid Homes, don't say you were not
warned.
Lynn in Yorkton, Sask. writes this customer review about Mcdiarmid Lumber Ltd.
RUN, RUN, RUN! Our home is incomplete! Three years have
now passed and our home is still NOT FINISHED! I thought
building a home was supposed to be an exciting and wonderful
experience, not a dreadful, stressful, expensive, and very regretful
one!! Whatever happened to customer satisfaction, obviously they
didn't get this memo.
Dean S in Weyburn, Sask. writes this customer review about Mcdiarmid Lumber Ltd.
Do NOT deal with them. We moved a house south of Weyburn. Over 8
months later we have only excuses and broken promises.
NO performance.
Parade of managers and staff tells you lots.
Looking back, it is obvious that they have no intention of looking
after their customer like they promise. They have developed an art of
putting off one more new home buyer after another.
There are GOOD RTM builders out there.
Very emotionally draining. Not to mention financially.
Stay away. Dean S
Stressed and Disappointed in Langenburg, Sask. writes this customer review about Mcdiarmid Lumber Ltd.
McDiarmid Homes has left us hanging with an incomplete house that was
to be delivered in 2008. It arrived months behind schedule, severely
damaged from the move (inside and out),and without cabinets or proper
wood trims, doors, casings, etc. because they had messed up on the
stain color. Every contractor that they sent made huge errors, and
then another unqualified contractor would be sent in to try and fix
the mess from the last guy. Mark from the Winnipeg head office was
very displeased with the quality and amount of errors when he came to
see our house in July/09, but a few months later he "closed our file",
ceased communication and this has led us to legal action. To make
matters worse, the 2 supervisors we had dealt with over the course of
16 months both QUIT in the midst of all the chaos and stress! What
should have been a joyous, exciting journey, building our new family
home, had been an absolute nightmare and the most stressful experience
imaginable!
Also Unfinished in Yorkton, Sask. writes this customer review about Mcdiarmid Lumber Ltd.
We too are living in an unfinished house. As it is our house was
delivered almost a year late and it is now over 16 months since it was
to be completed and is a far cry from it. On top of the lack of
customer service and quality product that was promised we've had to
fight for a lot of what was written into our contract. We paid the
utility bills for our vacant house to sit for three months so
McDiarmid could make it at least livable for us even though it was a
READY to MOVE (INTO) home. Unfortunately we have seen many managers
and staff come and go which makes follow-through and communication a
frustrating task. There are close to 30 families awaiting completion
who are currently living in their unfinished homes that have come from
Yorkton. Please take heed when considering this company because it
will drain you financially, emotionally and mentally!
Unfinished in Yorkton, Sask. writes this customer review about Mcdiarmid Lumber Ltd.
This company definitley doesn't value their customers. Built a
home with them 2 yrs. ago.
It is now 2010 and our home is still not
completed. Our building experience has been nothing but a nightmare.
Would not recommend this company to anyone!
