I Don't Like To Be Late in Courtenay, B.C. writes this customer review about Rogers Video.
I'm sure everyone has heard about the various "no late charge"
marketing scams put out by various video shops, but in the end, places
like Rogers only show that they are more about milking money out of
patrons than actually providing good value for service - at least
that's my experience. Sometimes it's hard to tell just exactly what
the main focus of this Rogers store is about. They have cell phones,
and videos, and while the staff may be able to handle a bit of all
these services, I can't help but think of the old phrase "Jack of all
trades, master of NONE." I've tried using Rogers as a source of video
rentals between my other first choices, and I've been a customer for
many years on and off. My issue with Rogers has to do with their "late
fee" scheme. I'm used to dealing with smaller personal-service video
rental shops and when I found out how Rogers deals with their
customers regarding late, or potentially late videos, I was not
impressed. I rent many videos each week and with my other shops, I can
count on being reminded if I have outstanding videos, and definitely
late videos should I be renting more videos. Rogers on the other hand,
as a policy (explained to me by a clerk in the Rogers store), does NOT
tell customers if they have late videos when they are standing at the
counter and checking out more videos. In fact, they let you go
delinquent, without any courtesy notice, until you have racked up some
fees to collect. All this hoopla about renting videos at Rogers with
or without late fees is just a scheme designed to generate more
revenues from customers through late charges. I don't mind having to
pay a fee for being delinquent, but I do mind not getting even the
most basic of customer service when I patronize a business. The clerk
at Rogers, explained to me that they could not possibly notify their
customers as soon as they are late, because, in Courtenay, and I
quote, there are typically 1,500 lates customers each day. I find this
hard to believe. And when I asked why they could not let their
customers know they have overdue movies when the customer is standing
in front of them checking out more videos, and the customer file is
open at the time, the answer (according to DeeDee) was that it would cause extreme delays in
processing rentals - it would take 12 hours to do so each day! I would never recommend Rogers as a first choice
for any of its products or services. This enterprise/chain is
notorious for its "negative option billing" scheme, and it looks like
their "late fee" scheme is just as customer UNFRIENDLY. When you've
used up all your other choices in town (who do give immediate courtesy
calls for overdue videos), and you're biding time until new videos
come into stock, only then, if you are a video junkie like me, do I
suggest you resort to Rogers. Rogers, while unlikely, might take a
lesson or two from the other smaller shops in town which understand
and practice TRUE customer service.
Not Impressed in Courtenay, B.C. writes this customer review about Rogers Video.
For a video rental chain with as much financial mass as it has, this
location of Rogers Video seems to fall short of quality services.
The video discs do not seem maintained by the shop, and some of the
rentals are in filthy condition. I guess I'm used to renting videos
from other sources where I don't have to worry about cleaning the
videos before watching them. There's nothing more annoying than
getting half way into a movie and having it lose its brain. The
selection at this location for older movies is pretty good, but I
think the prices are more than they should be. So if you rent a video
from here, be sure to check and clean it BEFORE you get absorbed into
your flick!
