Disappointed Diner, in Courtenay, B.C. writes this customer review about White Spot Restaurants.
I've just had the most horrible dinner at the Whitespot in Courtenay on Vancouver Island. Everything from the start to finish was a disaster.
The hostess at the beginning of my dining experience was very nice and extremely friendly, but the waitress which first "served" me seemed in such a rush, but every time she was running, she was running AWAY from me. I felt extremely rushed while she took my order and no one bothered to come around and check to see how my meal was until I was almost finished. The carrots were virtually raw - even though there were supposed to be part of hot cooked vegetables. When a waitress finally came around to check my progress, it was a different one. I explained that the carrots were uncooked, and without skipping a beat, the new waitress explained that they were "blanched". You can call it whatever you want, but raw carrots are raw carrots, regardless of whether they dipped their toes in the frying pan. The meat had a bad taste to it and the portion was tiny. BTW, the special I ordered was "blue cheese mashed potatoes and ribs.
The drinking water had a strong chlorine flavour. I believe restaurants, especially those charging what whitespot does for their meals should provide quality drinking water. Water filters are so much in abundance these days that there is little excuse for transforming tap water into a fresh tasteless beverage.
When the check came, I got my second disappointment. The price I was quoted by the hostess for the (not so) special was $12.98, but the cheque showed amost $16 - before taxes. I brought this to the attention of my second waitress and she promptly reduced my price, but it was just one more wrinkle in an unpleasant dining experience.
To me, it seems that this Whitespot has gone downhill quite a bit. I used to enjoy half a dozen or more meals a week there in the past, but I doubt I will be returning here again. With times being tough all round, going out for dinner has to count each and every time.
Going Cold Turkey, in Courtney, B.C. writes this customer review about White Spot Restaurants.
Years agon, before I ordered my first roast turkey dinner at Whitespot, I asked the waitress if the turkey was turkey loaf or actual roasted turkey sliced in house. I was told that the chef roasted turkeys in the restaurant each day and sliced real meat (not reconstituted or loaf) for the meal. I have come to disbelieve this claim.
Either the source of "turkey" for the roast turkey dinner has changed over the years, or it never was what the waitress claimed it to be, the last several times I've "treated" myself to a nice roast turkey dinner, the meat was certainly not of the flavour, nor consitency of actual kitchen roasted turkey.
With every meal I've had a Whitespot, I've come to suspect that there is more of a "canned/prepackaged-ready to reheat" process going on in the "kitchen". I cannot say this for a fact, but I can certainly say that my experience of late has NOT felt like eating on-site craftfully prepared cuisine. So much for their fancy commercials. My turkey eating days at Whitespot are done.
