Ugly Hair in Ottawa, Ont. writes this customer review about Salon Ravello.
I've had my hair cut several times at Ravello's, and it was a good
hair cut, although a little on the expensive side. HOWEVER I later
allowed myself to be persuaded by the stylist that I should try
colouring my hair. It turned out AWFUL - streaky dark red that did not
suit my colouring at all, when I had been very clear I did not want
anything drastic. I had asked twice prior to the colouring event
whether they had any photos or something I could look at to determine
whether I liked what they planned to do, but was told they did not. I
should have walked away then. Instead, I ended up back in the salon
the next day with my head in the sink for an interminable length of
time to have at least some of the colour stripped out. It took about
another 6 weeks before it faded enough to look nice.
So then it faded too much, and since I did like the faded version,
and since I thought the stylist had learned I did not want dark red
hair again, only a very pale blonde colour, I was stupid enough to go
back and try again. BIG MISTAKE. Instead of blonde I got "pearl",
because I had said "pale", which got misinterpreted, and since once
again no colour examples were produced, "pearl" was what I got -- a
sort of mousey clay colour instead of blonde (which I think of as the
colour of sunshine). When it became apparent that I was unhappy with
this colour, THEN colour swatches were produced, to show me the
"pearl" colour I had apparently asked for. I then was able to pick the
colour I had in mind, and was hastened back to the sink, where more
goop was applied, this time to come out with the same mousey clay
colour only darker. Yuck --- just let me go HOME, please. Another
stylist got involved at this point and recommended a particular shade
that would produce blonde. I was extremely reluctant at this point to
endure any more random experiments, but hated the second colour worse
than the first, so off to the chair and the sink again. Guess what I
got? Dark red -- almost as dark as the original bad dye job that had
to be stripped out two months earlier.
This could all have been prevented had the stylist listened carefully
to what I asked for, showed me some examples that we could see
together, and explain what might happen with the different shades
before applying them. Instead, it seemed she ignored what I asked for,
or listened to some part of it, assumed she knew what would work and
barged ahead, later to tell me she wished I'd said this or that to
explain what I wanted. I am not a hair stylist and do not know what
"pearl" is, or any of the rest of hair-dresser vocabulary. And it
should not be MY responsibility as the customer to bring a picture
with me of what I want -- I am not the type of person who spends lots
of time browsing through fashion magazines, therefore I figure I pay
someone else to do that. I will not be going back to Ravello's and do
not recommend it to anybody else.
